Naples is a wonderful southern Italian city in its own right, but we came primarily to see Pompeii.
Pompeii is similar to Ephesus in that it is complete, although in this case nature made the city uninhabitable when Mt. Vesuvius covered it in 79AD.
The art and the fact that things were left as they were when suddenly disrupted, gives a good idea of life in Pompeii. There was running water (lead pipes) and sewers.
